What is the Quartermaster Edition?

While working on this project (in 2020) I created a pre-series for the patrons on my Patreon page. Also, this helped me to test the graphics and use them for the photo shooting. The pre-series counts 300 decks: 100 were given to Patrons in 2020, 180 are for Kickstarter, 10 for giveaways and promotional matters, 10 as reserve to tackle shipping issues. Quartermaster will not be reprinted. This deck has got the artist signature on the front, the number, and a golden seal. The deck is not wrapped on cellophane. The cards are not wrapped in cellophane.

Quartermaster Edition: is it possible to choose the number?

Sorry, not possible. It is assigned randomly from n° 101/300 to n° 300/300.

The decks in the video do not have foil application, how so?

The decks in the video are prototypes printed without foil application. The final product will have foil on the back design as showed in the pictures. To render those pictures I used the base of a real deck with foil, and did some photoshop edit. The antique gold gilded edge is real. I manage to get product samples straight from the gilder.

Are the tuck boxes seen in the intro video and the picture the final version?

Graphic-wise yes, material-wise not. The final version will be better. The ink will be printed on uncoated paper and the embossing will be deeper. The prototypes in the video are printed with a laser printed that -unfortunately - creates a coated layer.

Why there is no picture of the uncut sheet?

Because I cannot show the the position of the cards that form the map.

Last updated: May 08, 2021 14:37

Did you draw the map as well?

No, I took a historical royalty-free nautical map from 1683.

Add-ons: how to they work?

ADD-ON = items you ADD ON top of your chosen reward. First, you choose a reward (those with a name and a description), then you add what you want. Not the other way round. Just click “manage my pledge” button, and you will see that it works like a normal online store.

What about the custom 6-deck-box mentioned in the Intrepid reward?

When the campaign is half way I will release the box and backer will be able to add one or more on top of their pledge (as add-on). It is already in the Intrepid reward because this reward is a kind of “all in”.

Can the novel be downloaded as PDF (digital book) ?

Sorry, not possible. I have an agreement in place with the co-authors and it can be read only on paper.

Last updated: May 08, 2021 14:37

Will the novel be translated in another language?

Not at the moment. It stays in English for this campaign.

Last updated: May 08, 2021 14:37

BOOK I and BOOK II?

At the beginning the intention was to write a mid-size novel, but eventually we had so much to tell that we had to split in 2 parts. This campaign is about the first part of the adventure. The 2nd part will be written by the same authors in 2021-2022. Next year there is a good chance that I run another campaign for the 2nd book.

Last updated: May 08, 2021 14:37

Is the book in colors or black and white?

Colors on all the pages. This because I am mimicking an old book and the pages got a warm/yellowish texture and tones. All the court cards will be in the book in big, together with many sketches and illustrations.

How does the puzzle work?

You need the book with leather cover and the 2 decks (Solis and Lunæ). Once you get the items you will read how to start.

Last updated: May 08, 2021 14:37

Prizes for the backers who solve puzzle?

Yes, I will organise a raffle among those who find the solution. No hints will be given. It will start when delivery is completed. Follow the kickstarter page updates and my social media not to miss the chance.

Are the decks printed as limited edition?

Only the Quartermaster Edition is limited with a progressive number written on the box. The reprint of the 3 main decks is possible, but improbable. I’d need a huge 2nd order of thousands of decks and usually this does not happen.

Last updated: May 08, 2021 14:37

How many decks will be printed?

This is a question I can answer only after the backers respond to the survey, probably at the end of June when I place the order at Cartamundi.

Last updated: May 08, 2021 14:37

Why only 50 Codex Keys?

Because their production cost is very high, and they have to be assembled by a goldsmith. This is a prop with moving parts and unfortunately the production capacity is limited to 50 units.

Last updated: May 08, 2021 14:37

Triton’s Iris: why 0 units available?

Because it costs like a new car and the campaign is about the novel and the decks. For now this amazing device belongs only to the novel and the 3D world.

Last updated: May 08, 2021 14:37

Why does the campaign is less than 30 days?

It ends the 4th of June, because it is Solveig’s name-day on the Swedish calendar and I thought it was a nice coincidence. Solveig is one of the main characters.

Last updated: May 08, 2021 14:37

Do the court cards match the characters of the book?

No, in the novel (see extract in pdf) Cpt. L. Dougherty design the cards himself and as court cards he depicts the historical characters he learned while stranded on the Eye of the Ocean. In those years he learned about the history of the island and the dynasties that ruled that forgotten kingdom.

What is a brick? And a split brick? And half brick? And half-split-brick?

Brick=set of 12 decks. Split brick = a set of 12 decks evenly sorted (4 of each kind) Half brick: a set of 6 decs Half-split-brick: a set of 6 decks evenly sorted (2 of each kind)

Last updated: May 08, 2021 14:37

Can bricks be configurable?

Sorry, not possible. You can add decks of your choice and play with add-ons in the way you want.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
